Christmas 2014: Cookies in a jar!

Daar gaan we:

320 gram bloem
1 theelepel baksoda
165 gram bruine basterdsuiker
150 gram kristal suiker
150 gram M&Ms

This is a kind of gift that will fit into a tight budget and will ALWAYS be appreciated. I love the idea. I loathe making up presents for people who do not have a clue what they want and I sometimes buy a present that I know that will end up in the back of a closet. This will always be a winner, because who does not like cookies?

Buy a jar which will fit 1 liter (34 fl. oz) and make a beautiful layered present. In the jar you will layer up all the dry ingredients and the recipient only has to add the wet ingredients. As a final touch you add the instructions how to make the cookies. I used Christmas M&Ms for this gift. You can also use dried cranberries or chocolate chips instead for other flavours!

Here we go:

For the jar you need:
320 grams of self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
165 grams of brown sugar
150 grams of caster sugar
150 grams of M&Ms

Mix the flour and the baking soda first. Pour in the pot and use a spoon to put pressure on the flour and flatten the layer.
Add the other layers, brown sugar first, then caster sugar and lastly the M&Ms.

Close jar.

Add a note or card with the instructions for making these cookies:

Add
1 egg (room temperature)
225 grams of softened butter

Makes 24-26 cookies

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius or 440 F. Place a cookie sheet on the baking sheet.

Beat the egg and butter into a smooth mixture.

Add all the dry ingredients and knead until you get a dough ball.

With tablespoon, make small cookies and flatten lightly on the cookie sheet.

Place the baking sheet in the middle of the oven and bake the cookies for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Add a nice personal note, and voila, a superb Christmas or Birthday gift!

  1. Hi Barbara!
The cookies sound so good & your jar looks Festive!! Thank you for the Great Idea!!!
I think the 440F is a bit high though, I checked my PC's converter & it said 200C = 392F. I would most likely cook them at 375F, or watch it Very Closely at 400F.
Thanks again for the Great, Lovely & Practical idea!!!!
