Pattern: Thread Christmas Bauble

*English version is a bit down the page*

Laat goed drogen.

I adore all the glass ornaments that I remember from my youth. You know, the glass christmas tree, the little trumpet, a glass bird. Those are classics! I really wanted to create something "old fashioned" and adding a touch of delicacy to my Christmas ornaments, but a homemade touch. After remembering a pin in which you string yarn around a balloon and used stiffener to create a bauble I had an "Eureka!" moment. Let's make a hollow crocheted Christmas bauble/ornament!

After a bit of fiddling I love how it turned out. The ball itself is quite big, but looks beautiful in a table piece. You can make it smaller by omitting chain stitches in the rows with the chain arches.

Enjoy the pattern!

You will need crochet thread and a 2 mm hook.

Crocheted ball will measure approx. 4" across.

Bobble: *yoh, insert hook in stitch, yoh, pull through* repeat three more times (8 loops on hook) yoh, pull through 7 loops (2 loops on hook), yoh, pull through the last two loops.

Ch3, sl st to close to a circle

Round 1: Ch1, sc 6 times into ring, sl st to 1st sc to close round.

Round 2:  Ch4 (counts as a dc and ch), dc in same st, (dc, ch1, dc) in each sc, sl st in 3rd ch of ch4 to close round.

Round 3: Ch2, *(bobble in same st, ch3, bobble in same st, ch3) into ch sp*, repeat for each ch sp, sl st into first bobble to close round.

Round 4: Sl st to ch sp, *(hdc, sc 3 times, hdc) in ch3 sp*, repeat for each ch3 sp, sl st to first hdc made.

Round 5: Ch1, sc in first hdc, ch8, *sc in next hdc, ch8, sc in next hdc*, repeat all around, sl st into first sc made. TURN.

Round 6: Ch6, sc in ch8 sp, *ch5, sc in ch8 sp* repeat between ** until last ch8 sp, ch3 and sl st to 4th ch of starting ch6. TURN.

Round 7: Ch3, dc into ch sp, dc in sc, dc 5 times into ch sp, dc in sc, *dc in sc, dc 5 times into ch sp, dc in sc*, repeat all around until last ch sp, dc 3 times into last ch sp, sl s tinto 3rd ch of ch3. TURN.

Round 8: Ch3, ch2, sk next 2 st, dc in next st, *ch2, sk next 2 st, dc in next st*, repeat for the whole round making your last dc in the last st, sl st to 3rd ch of ch3 to close round. TURN.

Round 9: Ch1, sc in each st all around, sl st to first sc to close round, fasten off.

Make another half, but do not fasten off!

Attaching the halves

Ch1, sc in same st (this will be a sc in a dc), ch3, sc in another sc (made in dc) on other half. Continue around and finish with an sc next to first sc made. Sl st to close round and fasten off.

Weave in ends.

Make stiffener and dip the whole ball into it until saturated. Put in a ballon and blow it up until you have a nice sphere shaped project. Let dry completely.
